Renegades Report

Jordan Levine
(AP)
Carolina Renegades
GM: Jordan Levine
Coach: Tom Renney

Record: 40-22 108pt
Playoffs: First Round Lost 4-3 vs. Ottawa Running Yaks

2007-08 Season was a decent season for the Renegades. They were a team in contention to win it all during the whole season, but collapsed in the playoffs to a tough Running Yaks team.

The team fortunately never suffered any severe injuries, but there was a major hiccup halfway through the season. General Manager Anthony Notarianni sent in his letter of resignation to take care of some other business, leaving a vacant seat in a crucial position for the Renegades. After the General Manager switch, the Renegades made two transactions. The renegades sent veteran Cory Stillman along with a couple other skaters to the Riverman for all-star Markus Naslund and Brian Willsie, and sent the Renegades sent defender Brian Campbell to Denver for a couple prospects.

Campbell, who was clearly the teams greatest defender, was traded away to do the fact that his contract was soon to expire and the Renegades did not have the cap space to support it.

RW David Ling / 600.000 / 1yr

Free Agent Forwards
C Sidney Crosby RFA
LF Drew Miller RFA
RW Brian Willsie UFA

The Renegades have a lot of returning forwards, including the signing of Chris Drury to a gigantic 7 million dollar deal for the next five seasons.

As for the free agents, the Renegades are currently focusing on resigning Sidney Crosby. It would be extremely unlikely to see Crosby in any other Jersey but the Renegades Jersey next season. The Renegades are trying to sign him to a short-term deal though, as they do not have the cap room to sign another player to a high contract price.

Brian Willsie will most likely be let go, if Drew Miller returns, it would be with the farm team.

Top Offensive Players in AHA
C Keith Aucoin
LW Adam Berti
LW Jiri Tlusty

Berti stepped up this year by scoring more goals then any other players on the Renegades AHA team. He is still young and has a chance of being on the Renegades club in the future, but he will most likely start next season in the AHA.

Aucoin has been a good player and captain for the AHA club, but at age 29, it will be unlikely for see much playing time in Raleigh unless he serves as a replacement do to injury.

Tlusty did not play many games last season, he split time between the AHA club and the Carolina Renegades last season after being picked up from the Brian Campbell trade. In his few games, he did perform fairly well for being 19 years, old. It is unknown at this time where he will be at the start of next season between the Renegades and the AHA team.

In the Market for:
Talented youth, more players to complement Sidney Crosby.

Returning Defenseman:
D Mathieu Schneider / 3.750.000 / 1yr
D Fedor Tyutin / 1.200.000 / 1yr

Free Agent Defenseman:
D Braydon Coburn RFA
Stephane Robidas UFA
D Ossi Vaanannen UFA
D Colin White UFA
D Ian White RFA

The defensive position has been the Renegades weakness for much of their History. Their defense expecialy got weaker during the depart of Brian Campbell. Braydon Coburn & Ian White are both expected to return, and the Renegades are also currently working on a deal with Colin White.

Ossi Vaanannen will most likely not be back with the club next season, it would be very unlikely to see him back.

Stephane Robidas will also most likely be testing the free agent market. There is a chance the Renegades might offer him a contract over the summer months, but he is not expected to return.

Top Defenseman in the AHA
Matt Jones
Bryce Lampman

These two performed well with the AHA club, but will most likely need a little more seasoning before getting a shot at the NHA.

In the Market For:
Top 4 Defenseman with a low contract price.

Returning Goalies:
G Brent Johnson / 650.000 / 2yr
G Marty Turco / 5.000.000 / 2yr

Free Agent Goalies:
None

The Renegades goalies were close to unstoppable. Turco did very well this past season with a .912 save percentage, and had three consecutive shutouts during the regular season. Johnson also performed very well for a backup. There has been rumor that the Renegades are looking to move Turco to gain more salary space, and looking to acquire a new goalie, but you know what they say “If it’s not broke, don’t fix it.”

Top Goalie in the AHA
Joey MacDonald

MacDonald did a great job with the Renegades AHA team last season, he had a .936 save percentage. But, do to being 26, and the fact that the Renegades have two good goalies in Raleigh, it will be unlikely that he will get much NHA time next season, though some might consider that he deserves it. MacDonald might become a trade chip this off-season for the Renegades.

Salary Committed: 40.067.500

Needs: Cheep, young talented forwards and defenders.

Trade Block: Players with big contracts
